Marine Growth Prevention System (MGPS)




Marine fouling and biofouling can form at all depths and temperatures and is commonly found in vessel's seawater cooling systems. Normally to cool machinery and plant on board all types of marine vessels where there is access to the sea. However this benefits supplying free cooling water, which also causes corrosion and blockage to the cooling water pipeline system as the primary marine life such as barnacles and mussels enters along with seawater and settle on internal surfaces of the pipeline and develop causing bio-fouling which can result in the blockage of pipe-work and restrict or completely prevent the use of the systems which incurs significant repair costs to the ship owners.

Earlier Chlorination treatment has been used to remove this type of marine growth by adding of chloride/ hypochlorite or by electro-lorination. These methods had not been satisfactory solutions due to the accelerated corrosion to the structure and unacceptable environment pollution by environmental.


Installation Antifouling (MGPS) System

MGPS System has Control panel which supplies low D.C current to anodes which accurately control the release in form of ions into the water flow. The control panel has a L.E.D digital display which monitors all the separate anode currents. The anodes are supplied with sleeves for mounting in a sea chest when the ship is in dry dock, whereas the flange mounted anodes can be installed in the strainer. However it is recommended the system is installed during dry dock so that the anodes can be fitted into sea chest to protect pipeline from the entry point from of sea water. The benefit of installing the anode in strainers makes replacement easier. The MGPS system are designed to be simply 'plug‐in and replace', making the system one of the simplest and most efficient anti‐fouling systems available.

Our copper and aluminium anodes come in different standard sizes and lengths. The most commonly used sizes are Ø70mm, Ø82.50mm, Ø100mm and Ø120mm.
